“Our daughter was struggling with her confidence in English. She was particularly finding Shakespearean texts challenging.
To set her on the right track for her GCSE studies, we wanted to find a tutor that would encourage her to believe in herself and show her that she was capable, that she could enjoy the subject and who would demystify the great Bard! We also knew that she would benefit from that one-to-one contact , enabling her to really concentrate. We also hoped that a tutor could work with her to identify areas where she need extra attention and guidance.
Michael was recommended to us, and we were super impressed with his qualifications, and engaging website. Michael has proved the best English teacher. He is thoroughly engaging, and I know she looks forward to her weekly lesson. It is great to hear them laughing!
She is not a great reader, but Michael has encouraged her, and also helped improve her understanding of language and context generally. Michael is patient, but also looks to challenge her during the lesson, as well as setting her tasks to complete after the lesson. In terms of Shakespeare, the role-play has proved particularly helpful and even fun. Words that she thought mere ‘gobbledygook’ and ‘foreign’ are now poignant and help with wider understanding to make sense of the entire narrative. Within weeks of starting tutoring, we had booked to see the play she was studying at the theatre, and she came back delighted that the words on the page came alive.
Michael has made English a subject she now enjoys, and has confidence in.”
