Education Beyond Exams?

On exams results days, the world focuses on education.  The word ‘education’ derives from Latin, meaning ‘to lead out’.  For us, leading out individual learners means aiming to inspire and nurture excellence.

One of the joys of working with young people is nurturing the spirit and mind that is developing within them. I think of students like Zoriana, who is passionate about pursuing further studies in Art at university; or Edward, who has recently discovered how exciting Material Science sounds as a course to follow; or Rebecca, who discovered over several months that her true interest was in Philosophy and Theology rather than Physics and Philosophy.

These are inspiring students to work with because they are prepared to talk about what fascinates them intellectually and emotionally. And this means we are able to fan the flames of enthusiasm and curiosity in them. We work with them to guide and crystallise their ideas so they can go further than they realised.

Our course ‘Nurture Your Uni Dream’ continues to grow in popularity since we first launched it, for the following reasons:

  • We get to know each student as an individual
  • We challenge them to read and research more deeply
  • We create the space for them to present their new ideas

We then discuss how to take the next practical steps. This includes:

  • The whole process of choosing which university course or Oxbridge college to apply for
  • Deciding on which significant content to focus on in their personal statement
  • Preparation for any further qualifications they need, like IELTS, LNAT etc.
  • Interview practice

We also work with students applying for Masters Degrees.  You can read more about Lam’s experience of working with us here.
